Biography
Tara (she/her) is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who sees clients out of our Coralville office and via telehealth with over nine years of experience in therapy, case management, and advocacy work. Tara has worked in a variety of professional settings, and currently works with adolescents and adults. She has a special interest in working with athletes and enjoys Sports Psychology and Wellness interventions. She takes a collaborative approach to therapy work and enjoys helping clients develop positive coping skills and healthy ways of thinking.
Tara prefers to draw from multiple evidence-based therapeutic approaches when working with clients which include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Tara is working on her skills using the Internal Family Systems approach and will be trained in EMDR in the Summer of 2023. When appropriate, she incorporates her experience as a collegiate athlete and her lifelong value of fitness into her work.
Tara firmly believes that the client is the expert of their life; that she is there to have an outside perspective to assist with reframing and offer interventions for in-between sessions to help the client make the most of their therapeutic experience and achieve their goals. Everyone deserves to have opportunities to grow and be the best version of themselves, regardless of self-perceived or societal-imposed limitations.
