Biography

Emily (she/her) is a strong believer that each individual already possess the tools needed to build a fulfilling life. She views the therapeutic process as walking alongside someone on their journey to accessing and implementing those tools, and that being trusted to provide this support is an honor and a privilege. Emily utilizes a person-in-environment approach, recognizing that a person’s internal experience is greatly influenced by their external experience, and vice versa. She primarily works with adults.

Emily’s practice is informed by both her educational and professional background. As a student, she was exposed to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Emily utilizes a client-centered approach when drawing from these modalities to determine what is most effective for each individual. Prior to acquiring her Master’s degree, Emily worked for eight years in the social services field with a variety of populations, including survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, individuals living with HIV, and individuals living with disabilities (intellectual, physical, and mental). All of these experiences have shaped Emily as a person and as a provider, cementing her passion for providing effective mental health care.
