Clinical Specialties
Kelsey Mickelson is a mental health counselor who works with adults and couples at our Davenport location. Her approach is warm, genuine, down-to-earth, and collaborative. She believes meaningful change begins with feeling safe, seen, heard, and accepted. Kelsey brings a calm, compassionate presence and a dose of humor to sessions, while also being active, direct, and willing to ask the difficult questions that help uncover what may be keeping you stuck.
Kelsey takes an individualized, holistic approach and has a particular strength for helping clients make sense of complicated experiences and identify a clear path forward. She believes therapy should help you understand not only what you are struggling with, but why certain patterns developed and what can be done differently moving forward. Her work may include challenging unhelpful thought patterns, values- and mindfulness-based work, solution-focused strategies, and exploring how past experiences continue to influence the present. She frequently incorporates inner-child and reparenting work to identify unmet needs and develop healthier ways of meeting them today. Kelsey is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and brings approximately four years of experience working in residential substance use treatment.
Above all, Kelsey wants clients to leave therapy with hope and a clearer sense of direction. She believes that even when someone feels stuck or defeated, there is often tremendous strength and resilience already present. Her goal is to help clients better understand themselves, navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence, and believe that meaningful change is possible.
