Biography
Michalyn (she/her/hers) is a mental health counselor in our Coralville office. She is focused on helping individuals with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, weight management, identity exploration, life transitions, and trauma. Michalyn gained clinical experience at the University of Iowa Hospital specializing in the weight management and LGBTQ+ clinics. She has worked with a diverse range of populations, including but not limited to adolescence in residential treatment and members of the LGBTQ+ community . These experiences have strengthened her appreciation for the resilience and inner strength clients show as they move through changes throughout the lifespan.
Michalyn utilizes a person-centered approach to therapy, helping clients to identify their strengths and desires. Michalyn incorporates interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients progress towards their goals. Michalyn prioritizes incorporating cultural competency as well as adopting a systems perspective to counseling to ensure all aspects of an individual are being integrated into the therapeutic process.
No matter what an individual is facing, Michalyn strives to create a nonjudgmental, supportive, and affirming environment. Her goal is to be a support and guide to clients as they explore their strengths, find empowerment, and progress toward a more balanced Self-led lifestyle.
