Biography
Sara Knox (she/her/hers) is a licensed master social worker based in our Iowa City office who specializes in family and relationship issues, gender and sexuality, LGBTQ+ issues, life transitions, Borderline Personality Disorder, self-harm thoughts and behaviors, and trauma, including that which has occurred throughout the lifespan. Sara believes strongly in the person-centered approach, focusing on client strengths and valuing their expertise on their own lives. She draws from a base of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Brief Solutions-Focused Therapy to meet the unique needs of the individuals she works with.
Sara believes that people only feel safe to do this work when they are in a judgment-free environment with an empathetic and compassionate helper. Sara views her role as walking alongside you, providing an outside perspective and reframing challenges to support you as you explore your beliefs about yourself and the world and to assist you in building a life you want to live.
